Statement & Bio
"
In the heart of Stoke-on-Trent, amidst the echoes of industrial heritage, my creative journey finds its origin. I am compelled to explore the complex tapestry of human existence through the lens of the natural world, using animals as potent metaphors to convey the intricacies of our shared experience.Through the poised stance of a majestic hound or the tender gaze of nurturing mother, I aim to evoke a sense of empathy and introspection. The creatures I sculpt embody universal emotions, inviting the viewer to delve into their own feelings and memories. The creatures that inhabit my canvases are not mere subjects, but emissaries of emotion, carriers of universal truths. Through them, I delve into the depths of human nature, unraveling threads of vulnerability, strength, and resilience.
The industrial backdrop of my hometown serves as a poignant juxtaposition to the organic themes that pervade my work. It reminds us of the inexorable link between our urban landscapes and the wilderness that endures within us all. Through this contrast, I seek to prompt reflection on the delicate equilibrium we must strive to maintain.
In my artistic process, there exists a dance between precision and spontaneity, where each brushstroke and contour is imbued with purpose within my paintings and sculptural figures. This interplay allows for the emergence of unexpected narratives, mirroring the unpredictability of life itself. The result is a visual dialogue, an invitation for viewers to engage, interpret, and find resonance within the imagery.
I am drawn to the enduring symbolism of animals; their grace, their power, their vulnerability. Through them, I strive to evoke a visceral response, inviting viewers to connect with the primal essence that unites us all.
Ultimately, my work is a celebration of the enduring power of clay, the timeless wisdom of the animal kingdom, and the unbreakable thread that weaves us all into the tapestry of existence. Through animals as metaphor, I aim to spark conversations, stir emotions, and ignite a sense of unity in the shared experience of life."
